Advanced Wreck Diver
The TDI Advanced Wreck Diver Course is one of the most challenging and rewarding programs available for divers looking to push their limits. This course takes you into the “dark zone”—areas within wrecks where direct access to the surface is no longer possible—and trains you in the techniques, skills, and mindset required to handle overhead environments safely and efficiently.
Shipwrecks offer a stark contrast to coral reefs: they are time capsules, teeming with marine life and rich in history. Whether you’re swimming past rusted gun turrets or peering into a long-abandoned crew’s quarters, wrecks offer unmatched experiences for divers—but also come with unique risks. Proper training is essential.
Our TDI Advanced Wreck Diver course in Phuket, Thailand provides hands-on training for safe and effective penetration of underwater wrecks. Due to the lack of dedicated wreck diving boats in the area, we extend the course, allowing for six wreck dives to be conducted properly and safely.
You’ll learn critical skills such as:
- Proper use and placement of guidelines in overhead environments
- Emergency procedures in zero visibility
- Redundant gear configuration and equipment management
- How to survey, assess, and safely penetrate wrecks
- Understanding hazards specific to wreck diving
This course prepares you for dives up to 55 meters (180 feet) but not beyond your current depth certification or experience level.
Imagine descending into the rusting engine room of a warship from the early 1900s, or discovering the preserved belongings of WWII sailors in undisturbed quarters. Whether you’re training on legendary wrecks like the HMS Thisslegorm in Egypt or dreaming of exploring the HMS Hermes off the coast of Sri Lanka, this course is your gateway to deep, meaningful wreck exploration.
With Tech Dive Asia, we go beyond the minimum standards to ensure every diver is confident and competent inside real overhead environments. The course is open to divers who already hold Recreational Wreck Diver certification and are certified for staged decompression dives. You’ll need a solid foundation in technical diving—Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures or equivalent—as this course is designed for divers who are already comfortable with advanced equipment and protocols.
Penetrating a wreck is very different from open-water diving. Once you’re inside and past the natural light zone, there’s only one exit—the way you came in. Learning to properly lay and follow a guideline in near-zero visibility, managing redundant systems, and responding calmly to emergencies are all essential skills covered in this course.
This program is also available for CCR divers, allowing rebreather-trained participants to complete the course using their preferred unit.
