TDI CCR Helitrox Diver Course – Phuket, Thailand

Take your technical CCR diving to the next level with the TDI CCR Helitrox Diver course in Phuket, Thailand. Designed for experienced rebreather divers who want to safely extend their depth range while reducing narcosis, this advanced technical diving program introduces helium-based diluent diving procedures to a maximum depth of 45 metres (150 feet).

The course focuses on closed circuit rebreather (CCR) decompression diving using Helitrox diluent mixes that combine oxygen, nitrogen and helium to optimise diver performance at depth.

By reducing nitrogen narcosis and improving gas efficiency, Helitrox diving allows technical divers to maintain greater clarity, comfort and control during deeper decompression dives.

What Is the TDI CCR Helitrox Diver Course?

The TDI CCR Helitrox Diver course is an advanced decompression rebreather training program that teaches divers how to safely conduct staged decompression dives using helium-containing diluent mixtures.

This course expands upon standard air diluent CCR procedures by introducing the benefits, limitations and operational considerations of helium in closed circuit technical diving.

Training includes:

  • advanced decompression planning,
  • helium gas management,
  • bailout procedures,
  • emergency protocols,
  • and real-world CCR decompression diving skills.

Successful graduates may conduct decompression dives to 45 metres within certification limits using approved Helitrox gas mixtures.

Why Use Helitrox in CCR Diving?

One of the primary limitations of deeper air diving is nitrogen narcosis, which can impair judgement, awareness and task performance.

Adding helium to the diluent mixture reduces narcosis and improves diver performance during technical decompression dives.

Benefits of Helitrox diving include:

  • Reduced narcosis at depth
  • Improved mental clarity
  • Lower breathing resistance
  • Enhanced decompression efficiency
  • Better gas optimisation
  • Increased comfort during deeper dives
  • Improved technical task performance

Helitrox has become increasingly popular among technical divers progressing toward deeper wreck, cave and exploration diving.

What You Will Learn

During the TDI CCR Helitrox course, divers develop both theoretical knowledge and practical CCR decompression diving skills.

Core training topics include:

  • CCR dive planning
  • Decompression procedures
  • Bailout gas calculations
  • Helium gas management
  • Dive execution strategies
  • Emergency response procedures
  • Oxygen exposure management
  • Advanced buoyancy and loop control
  • Dive computer and decompression software usage
  • Surface marker buoy deployment
  • Team communication procedures

Helitrox-Specific Training Topics

In addition to standard CCR decompression procedures, the course introduces several advanced helium diving concepts.

Topics include:

  • Helium properties and considerations
  • Helium absorption and elimination
  • Advantages of helium for bottom gas
  • Advantages of hyperoxic gases for decompression
  • Hypoxia awareness and prevention
  • High Pressure Nervous Syndrome (HPNS)
  • Effects of helium on respiration
  • Thermal insulation considerations
  • Practical limitations of helium diving
  • Approved Gas Limits

Students are permitted to use:

Diluent & Bailout Mixes

  • Maximum 20% helium
  • Minimum 21% oxygen

Decompression Gas

  • Up to 100% oxygen permitted

These limits provide a controlled introduction to helium-based CCR decompression diving while maintaining conservative operational procedures.

Course Prerequisites

To enrol in the TDI CCR Helitrox Diver course, students must meet ONE of the following requirements:

Helitrox Option 1

OR Helitrox Option 2

  • Certified TDI Air Diluent CCR Diver or equivalent
  • Minimum 30 dives and 30 hours on the CCR unit
  • Minimum six months CCR diving experience

Course Duration & Options

Stand alone Course

  • Minimum 6 days

Why Train CCR Helitrox in Phuket?

Phuket offers ideal conditions for advanced technical diving and CCR training.

Benefits include:

  • Warm tropical water year-round
  • Deep technical dive sites
  • Boat-based decompression diving
  • Excellent diving logistics
  • Professional technical diving infrastructure
  • Access to wrecks and advanced training environments
  • Lower training costs compared with Europe or North America

Thailand has become one of Asia’s leading destinations for professional technical diving education and rebreather training.

Why Choose Tech Dive Asia?

Tech Dive Asia specialises in technical diving and CCR education in Thailand.

Unlike recreational dive centres that occasionally offer technical courses, our focus is advanced diver development, procedural precision and real-world technical diving skills.

What Makes Our Training Different?

  • Experienced CCR Instructors. Our instructors actively dive rebreathers in decompression, wreck and exploration environments.
  • Small Team Training. Low student-to-instructor ratios ensure personalised coaching and safer technical training.
  • Real Technical Procedures. Training reflects realistic CCR diving practices used in actual technical diving operations.
  • Unit-Specific Expertise. All CCR training is completed on the exact unit divers intend to use after certification.
  • Progressive Technical Development. Courses focus on precision buoyancy, situational awareness, procedural discipline and safe decision-making.
